Rivalry, Respect, and Representation: Why This Dallas Stars Night Means Something to Me
Hockey loyalty runs deep — and mine didn’t start with the Dallas Stars.
I grew up a St Louis Blues fan, watching the game with that mix of hope, heartbreak, and die-hard dedication that only sports can teach you. Like a lot of kids, I had heroes. And one of mine was Brett Hull — his shot, his presence, the way he carried himself on the ice. He was the guy I watched, studied, and rooted for.
So yeah… being a Blues fan is part of who I am.
But sports have a funny way of teaching us something bigger than rivalry.
Because while my heart was always with St. Louis, I’ve always had a deep respect for the Dallas Stars. Why? Because they became part of my childhood sports story too. They were the team that helped my hero, Brett Hull, win his first Stanley Cup. That moment stuck with me. It reminded me that greatness is built through chapters — and sometimes those chapters happen in unexpected places.
That’s why this moment feels full circle.
I’m honored to share that I’ve been selected as a Dallas Stars Black History Night Ambassador for their game on February 4th, 2026 vs. the St. Louis Blues.
This night is about more than hockey. It’s about Culture, Visibility, and Community. It’s about celebrating the contributions, history, and impact of Black voices — in sports and beyond. And being part of something that brings people together across team lines, backgrounds, and stories means a lot to me personally.
Rivalries make sports exciting.
Respect is what makes them meaningful.
On February 4th, those two worlds meet for me — my lifelong connection to the Blues and my respect for the Stars’ place in my childhood hockey memories — all coming together on a night that celebrates heritage and unity.
If you’re anywhere near Dallas, come be part of it.
There are discounted tickets available, and attendees will also receive a commemorative poster for Black History Night. It’s going to be an incredible atmosphere — competition on the ice, celebration in the stands.
I also found out that the homie Bambata Tyehimba, owner of YK1K Clothing is cooking up something special for this special moment.
No matter who you cheer for, this is one of those nights where the bigger picture matters most.
Stars vs. Blues. Culture. Community. Hockey.
I’ll be there — and I hope you will too.
