Are we ever doing enough?

I’ve been a part of planning committees, implemented community initiatives, created organizations, and here I am, always looking for another way to make an impact on this world.

I’m involved with many organizations, and I volunteer whenever I can. I make it a point to be actively engaged with the community, because I believe that each individual has  their own place in taking care of the planet. As an artist, not only is it my duty to reflect the times, but also help open minds to explore concepts that can eventually become solutions for future generations.

When I was younger, I remember the impact that the Boys & Girls Club had on my childhood. It was individuals like Mr. Jamal, who coached me in football, mentored me in real life, and also helped the family whenever it was needed.

Those moments have always been a reminder to pay it forward, and to make it a mission not only to teach the value of the Arts to the younger generations, but to also be the person that was there for me, when I was a child. Every single time that I’m teaching a workshop, leading a paint-and-sip, or talking to art students at a colleague’s campus, I am reminded that my role to the community is much more than painting pretty pictures.

I am always looking for another way to make an impact on this world.
